Day 4

Tough day today…. Started with FitExpress at the gym this morning, and then a run this afternoon.

I’m hanging in there with the FitExpress class, and I guess it is starting to get easier – I’ve been doing them twice a week for about a month now. Some things are beyond me – for example, swinging a 12.5kg kettleball!  The instructor usually takes pity and gives me another exercise today at that station!

After lunch I ran 6k in 40:20 – a bit slower than Monday’s run, but it was a lot warmer!  I know that’s only warm by Wellington standards! It really was a lovely afternoon running around the coast, a bit of a northerly, which helped me make it home!

I should sleep well tonight!

Day 3

With gale-force winds in Wellington today, I opted for the treadmill!!  Very boring….. so against my better judgement I added 4x400m at 5k race pace…. Altogether 5k in 32:40.  Felt pretty good, especially since I spent 20 minutes stretching afterwards! I always enjoy stretching after a hard run, and it makes such a difference later.

OK – now the confession:  I had a Cherry Ripe chocolate bar on the way home!  Enjoyed it, too!

Day 2

Today was a gym day – I did an ExpressFit class at Configure, Kilbirnie.  It’s always hard work, but I’m hoping it’s building up my muscular endurance!  It certainly gave my core a workout, and that’s probably the most important workout.  I’m a bit stiff and sore now, but hopefully will all be good in the morning…

Day 1

I’ve decided to write this blog as a motivating tool (for me! but maybe others will benefit too!) because I’ve made up my mind to run the Masterton marathon in October 2015.  This won’t be my first marathon, but my last one was back in 1993, so I feel a bit daunted by this task!

Today I ran about 6km in 39:40 – not bad.  There was a cold southerly, but it was a flat run, around the coast.  I ran a bit faster than I usually do, and I felt that towards the end!

My first ‘mini-goal’ is to run the ‘Round the Bays’ half-marathon in February. So for the next six or seven weeks I just want to build up my mileage – get used to 35-40 km per week.

So… I’ve started!
